For the second consecutive year, Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (with the Bernie L. Bates Foundation), were asked to assist in providing “Back-to-School Supplies” as a part of Television NBC Channel 4 Live broadcast on August 16, 2023, at 6:00 a.m.
Our contribution was a partnership with the Apple Federal Credit Union (FCU) located at 6831 Sir Viceroy Drive, Alexandria, Virginia, and our backpack donations would be given to the students at Rose Hill Elementary School in Alexandria. The goal this year was to provide 500 student backpacks for the 750 students expected to attend this school year.
Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter was featured as the initial donors on the 6:00 a.m. live morning news broadcast with news anchor Molette Green. The chapter's donation of 50 backpacks were filled with nine essential items intended to help the students get a great start to the new school year. Our donation was well received by NBC 4 Live, Apple FCU, and the Rose Hill Elementary Staff present.
The Fairfax County Ques were well represented with nine Brothers supporting our Basileus, Myron McDaniels. Uplifting the young scholars at Rose Hill Elementary School is essential and our $874.50 donation was the perfect start to this effort. It went so well that we have been asked and look forward to supporting this initiative next year.
